Leadership Quotes

“The higher the self esteem of a leader, the more likely it is that he or she can inspire the best in others. A mind that does not trust itself cannot inspire greatness in the minds of colleagues and subordinates” – Dr.Nathaniel Branden

“Twenty first century leadership relationship dynamics are from the bottom up rather than the top down; from the outside in, rather than the inside out” – James M Strock

The bases of power in Leadership

The two popular bases of power in leadership are Position Power and Personal power. Position power includes legitimate, reward and coercive. Personal power includes referent and expert. Position power is when someone derives power from a rank or a position in the organization, like Vice President or General Manager. Personal power is power derived by a person who is likable and knowledgeable or when subordinates think that the leader is highly competent. Some leaders have one of these power bases and some others have a combination of both the bases.

IT certification industry in India

India is an over crowded marketplace in the IT certification training business space. This is primarily due to the fact that this is an unregulated industry in which grey market operators who appear to make a quick money can thrive without being reprimanded for malpractices. Selecting the right provider becomes difficult. Accredited training providers are controlled by Exam Institutes (Exam bodies) who maintain reasonable quality in their course material. Quality of certification training depends on many other factors, called Quality Criteria. I will write about these criteria in the coming weeks.

AICTE Inspections to be done online

This is a good decision by AICTE, online inspections are good and should reduce corruption. All the documents for compliance to requirements must be submitted online. https://www-telegraphindia-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.telegraphindia.com/amp/india/colleges-seeking-to-start-new-courses-will-have-to-participate-in-online-inspections/cid/1774393. I guess this decision is taken post lockdown to avoid the risk of inspectors exposure to coronavirus.

The e-learning rush

Ever since the government lockdown due to coronavirus all the training providers in india started offering courses online using the virtual classroom delivery mode. Some trainers were experienced but majority of trainers who are delivering these do not have the experience in online synchronous delivery. I attended 2 classes in which the curriculum was not transacted well.
